This happens to me all the time... People in my town are apparently constantly in a rush. I just wait an extra 10 seconds, or until the light turns yellow depending on the severity of the honking.

That's for extreme cases. I once had someone honk at me before the light turned green. I mean, really honk at me. Like lay on the horn for a few seconds kind of honk. Really, dude? Just because you can see that their light turned red doesn't mean I can go yet. I sat through an entire green light and waited for the next yellow. The best part? My town has red light cameras and that was a notoriously short yellow light.
